Privacy Policy
Last Updated: February 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the application RuSSell (“we”, “our”, or “the App”) collects, uses, and shares user information. By using RuSSell on iOS or Android, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information Collection and Use
a. Account and Personal Data RuSSell applies a “Privacy First” philosophy.
-
Guest Mode: You can use the full functionality of the App without creating an account. In this mode, all your data (feeds, articles, preferences) remains strictly local on your device.
-
Optional Account (Android): To enable cloud synchronization features across your Android devices, you may choose to sign in using your Google Account. If you do so, we access basic profile information (such as your name, email address, and unique user identifier) solely to authenticate you and secure your data within our database. We do not use this information for marketing, emailing lists, or advertising purposes.
-
iOS Users: No account creation is requested by the App. Synchronization relies on your device’s native iCloud account.
b. Data Storage and Synchronization Your data (added RSS feeds, reading preferences, article read/favorite states, settings) is stored as follows:
-
Locally: On your device’s internal encrypted storage (Room Database on Android, Core Data on iOS).
-
Via Cloud Synchronization (Optional):
-
On iOS: By default, the App uses your personal iCloud account. Data stored on iCloud is managed by Apple and subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy. We (the developers) have no access to this data.
-
On Android: If you enable synchronization, the App uses Google Firebase (Firestore). Your data is stored securely on Google Cloud servers, encrypted, and strictly linked to your authenticated Google Account. Only you can access this data.
-
User Control: You can disable synchronization at any time in the App settings. You also have the right to request the deletion of your account and associated data stored on our servers (for Android users).
2. Artificial Intelligence and API Keys
The App integrates features powered by third-party Artificial Intelligence services (such as Google Gemini and OpenAI) to provide advanced capabilities like the “Daily Briefing” or content summarization.
a. API Keys Management To use these AI features, you are required to input your personal API Keys.
-
Local Storage Only: Your API Keys are stored exclusively locally on your device within the App’s secure private storage (Encrypted SharedPreferences on Android, Keychain on iOS).
-
Zero-Sync Policy: Consistent with our security standards, API Keys are never synchronized to the cloud (neither iCloud nor Firebase) and are never transmitted to our servers. They are sent directly and strictly to the respective AI service provider (Google or OpenAI) solely for authentication during requests.
b. Data Sharing with AI Providers When you explicitly trigger an AI feature (e.g., clicking “Generate Briefing”):
-
The specific text content of the articles you selected is sent directly from your device to the chosen service provider (Google or OpenAI) to generate a response.
-
Google Gemini: Use is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Generative AI Terms.
-
OpenAI: Use is subject to OpenAI’s Privacy Policy.
We do not retain, store, or view the data you send to these AI services or the responses received.
3. Technical Data and Analytics
a. Direct RSS Requests To function, the App performs direct network requests to the servers of the RSS feeds you have added. These third-party servers may see your device’s public IP address, as is the case for any standard web browsing activity.
b. Analytics and Crash Reporting We prioritize functionality over tracking.
-
No Ad Tracking: We have explicitly disabled advertising identifiers (Advertising ID) in our analytics configuration. We do not track your behavior across other apps and websites.
-
Technical Diagnostics: We use Google Firebase to collect minimal, anonymous technical data (e.g., crash reports, app launch success rates) solely to improve the stability and performance of the App.
4. Permissions
The App may request the following permissions to function correctly:
-
Internet Access: Necessary to retrieve RSS feeds, synchronize data, and communicate with AI services.
-
Storage / Files: Required for importing or exporting your feeds (OPML files) and creating full backups (JSON files).
-
Notifications (Android): Required to alert you when a background task (such as the automatic Daily Briefing generation) is completed.
5. Data Security
We implement robust security measures:
-
On iOS, synchronization relies on Apple’s secure iCloud infrastructure.
-
On Android, synchronization relies on Google’s secure Firebase infrastructure, protected by industry-standard authentication.
-
Local data is protected by the operating system’s sandboxing features.
However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last Updated” date.
